This arrangement is a reworking of one originally made for the BBC Instrumental Sessions in 2020, written bespoke for the oboe players of the 5 BBC Orchestras. In this version the orchestral material from the original Bach is covered by oboes 1-4 (working in pairs), whereas the choral material is generally played by oboes 5 & 6. The cor anglais players cover the rest with the bass-line played by the 3rd player (or bassoon) throughout. Bach’s original key is G major, but D major has been chosen here to better accommodate the range of the cor anglais.
